Handmade Gift Gallery and Product Pages

Jelly Bean has a sudden inspiration.

Handmade & Gifts

If you’ve had difficulty recently browsing or sometimes even opening the Handmade Gift Gallery page, you’re not alone. So have I, and not only with browsing it from the front, but also updating from the back end.

When I set up the page I had wanted customers to be able to browse all the handmade things by scrolling down the page using the “service thumbnails” that take you to product pages. I based that on my former Etsy volume and had no idea I’d discover gift bags and vintage cigar box keepsakes and start making jewelry, which easily quadrupled the number of handmade products—and I’m not done yet!

As I added more products the page slowed down and even froze up a few times. Seeing that I have no intention of stopping any time soon I took a little time to rebuild the Handmade Gifts Gallery using links and category pages. Each of the categories that used to appear with products on the gallery page such as “Jewelry” and “Keepsake Boxes” have now become pages of their own. Now, when you browse the gallery instead of seeing category titles and an array of product thumbnails, you’ll see a category title and a photo for each category which are both linked to the page for that category.

Below is an example of how the page appears.

Each of these page links opens in a new tab so that you always have access to the Handmade Gift Gallery as you are browsing.

I have also added the product sub-pages to the menu so that, if you know the product you’re looking for, you can go right to that product’s page. Each product page has a link back to the Handmade Gift Gallery so whether you are on a computer or mobile device you can always get back to the main page to look at more handmade stuff.

Considering I just designed a few new things and purchased new equipment and materials to design and make even more, I’m glad I did this now.

If you ever have difficulty browsing, if anything is confusing or too complicated, please let me know. I’ve built many web pages but from that perspective it’s hard to tell how others see them, even if I’ve had friends test things out.

And as always, thanks for visiting Portraits of Animals!
