I’ve been enjoying trying out the various pre-made tote bags I can purchase to print on. I’ve always wanted to see my lady leopard, “Yes?”, on a burlap bag and in my searches found various large and small bags in hemp and jute, lined and unlined, large and small. I imprinted a few bags to see how it would look. I like it!

For reference, here is the actual block print.

This linoleum block print captures a leopard I saw at the zoo, turning around with quite the question on her face. I so loved the spots that showed up so clearly in my photos so I decided to just print the spots. The art size is 12″W x 10″H.

Block printing is a technique wherein the artist carves the surface of a piece of linoleum, leaving raised areas which will become the image. Ink is rolled onto these raised areas, then a piece of paper is pressed against the block and when it’s lifted away the ink remains, leaving the image on the paper.

I imprinted my wildlife block print “Yes?” on a pre-made hemp tote bag. The bag is 15″ x 17″ x 3″ and unlined, great for shopping. I only purchased and printed two of these bags to experiment, so when they sell out they are out of stock until I can find another similar bag.

In my searches found a series of lined and shaped bags that are more like purses than little totes. I imprinted on both sides of a smaller tote bag and detailed the edges with a spotted print to see how it would work. I like the look!

The bag is 8″ x 10″ x 3″, lined with thin clear vinyl and holds its shape well, as you can see in the photo. Handles are sturdy plastic coated cord covered with jute. I only purchased and printed two of these bags to experiment, so when they sell out they are out of stock until I can purchase more bags.
