My Display at the Hearts & Paws Pet Fair

The full display,

The full display,

Saturday’s event was great fun, perfect weather, and got to see so many people. My tortie girls are always right there in the back keeping me company.

I was right next to Pittsburgh CAT and was also able to borrow a few kittens to photograph in my display!

Nelson plays with the cabochon pendants.

Nelson is solid gray and about 12 weeks old, and he wasn’t bothered by all the echoing noises and dogs barking and strangers. He is available for adoption from Pittsburgh C.A.T., and has a sister with white paws who is an absolute nut. Together they are ready for action!

I’ve been trying out some new setups in my displays of late and made some changes that made the process much more streamlined, from packing my car to setting up and tearing down. That was good because I am down to a minimum of items right now and when the next animal event comes along I’ll have more things to pack and display and this way I’ll have room to grow. I’ll also have new products in gift items for non-animal events, so this is good all around.

I’m also planning the studio redo finishing this week and then getting around to making a pile of new stuff for…a Christmas in July Open House Studio Sale about a month from now! We’ll see if I can pull that off.

I like to mix gift items together in settings as they might be displayed in your home, and create color themes.

I gave up on the greeting card spinners, both the tabletop and the tall one. Even though they were eyecatching and brought people to my booth, not many cards sell these days and I found a better way to display them so people could get an eyeful at a glance.

Greeting cards and notecards.

I still use the wood lattice panels for display, and they work well when half-folded. They are more opaque than the wire mesh ones I’ve made and that is good for isolating the artwork against the background at a busy event like this, but then I’d intended to make burlap covers for the wire mesh ones. Perhaps when I make the other one or two sets of those I’ll make the covers and see how that works.

Latticework display with totes.

Make a note for myself, I am out of orange kitty totes! I actually have a lot of printing ahead of me in addition to that.

And more cabochon pendants to make as well, and I’ll need a few more ways to display them because I’m also planning bracelets and chokers, and just the pendants as well.

And my sample portrait goes with me each time. I didn’t carry too much other art with me this weekend but always have pastels on hand for people to see a finished portrait. I have always left this portrait unframed, though, so I can take apart the poster frame and people can see the actual finish and touch the surface of the drawing paper. I painted these three girls about 18 years ago.

My next official event is my Panhandle Trail exhibit at the end of August, though I am planning the open house and possibly one Saturday at the Artisan Market in the Strip District. We’ll see.

For now, I’m happy to stay home for a while and spend some time in my studio.
