Poster Quotes

I’ve been a graphic designer for decades, and even before we had our own desktop publishing capabilities on our own computers I designed posters from photos and art that included favorite quotes from others or from myself, including my own poetry, and often made them by hand with paints and pastels and inks and hand lettering. It is so much easier today.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Morning Glories in the Alley

Morning Glories in the Alley

I don’t have enough sun to grow morning glories in my yard, so I take advantage of others’ lovely pink and purple trumpets. For years I’ve photographed the morning glories that come up from seeds along the wrought iron fence by my neighbor’s white barn garage in the alley near me. The house was sold, and both the morning glories and the wrought iron fence are gone. I’m so glad I took the time to photograph them.

. . . . . . .

I have been kind of obsessed with morning glories in alleys lately—they’ve just suddenly sprung up so I’ve shared some of my old favorites, but I’m trying not to spend too much time on them right now when I’m really busy.

If There Weren’t Morning Glories

I would get more
done
if there weren’t
morning glories
in
the alley

poem © 2013 Bernadette E. Kazmarski

They got the better of me today, and after a GB+ of photos of the lovely purple and pinks by the white barn and a quick scribble of a thought I decided to spend some time on something I visualized while photographing and finishing my walk home. The thought was a very literal one—I should get home, I had things to do before the end of the day and if I hadn’t encountered such exuberant and colorful beauty while walking down the alley I would probably have been home already.

But I wouldn’t have these many photos of morning glories, each of which I’ll use somewhere sometime, even if I only look at them one winter day, and I wouldn’t have that sweet spontaneous the exercise of my creative intellect from coming upon such beauty that had me let go of what I needed to do, only to come back and do it better than I would have if I had ignored the morning glories and come straight home. Soon the morning glories will be grayish withered memories and I may be too, so it was extra important to capture it.

Please share! And don’t forget to tarry a while by the morning glories.

Framed prints are signed on the photo and on the mat.

Other custom framing options are also available for a special quote. Please ask if you’d like another option.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Photo Quote: Running Through the Woods

Photo Quote: Running Through the Woods

“Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.” ~Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

I painted my great niece and nephew from a photo of a day in the woods and titled it “Running Through the Woods”, something I did as often as possible at their age, and even today. Feeling in their passage along the trail and remembering my own, I combined it with the quote from Kahlil Gibran, one that resonated with me from the first time I read it and confirmed that walking barefoot in the woods is a good thing, and glad to share it with the next generation.

You can find the painting in my Landscape Artwork Gallery and in Seasons Along the Panhandle Trail, All Paintings.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Photo Quote: The Miracle

Photo Quote: The Miracle

“The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth in the present moment, to appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now.” ~Thich Nhat Hahn, Teaching Peace

This world and our existence is such a miracle, we need to appreciate each moment. How could we want to hurt the earth or each other or anything that walks on it if we feel that miracle? Thich Nhat Hahn’s teachings are full of gentle common sense that it’s a surprise we need to be told.

I feel this miracle walking in nature in all its diversity, happening without assistance from the hand of humans. The painting is “Paths I Have Walked” and it’s actually me walking through a favorite section of the woods along the Panhandle Trail where the trees in the valley grow tall and straight and the space feels like a cathedral.

You can find the painting in my Landscape Artwork Gallery and in Seasons Along the Panhandle Trail, All Paintings.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Photo Quote: Discovery

Photo Quote: Discovery

“Take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints.” ~Chief Seattle

Though the provenance of this quote is disputed, it’s most often attributed to Chief Seattle and sounds similar to other sentiments known to be his. The actions taken leave room for discovery rather than conquest or possession, letting the place be what it is and enjoying it for its own nature. The poster is named for both the quote and for the photo, intentionally unfocused on my great niece and nephews as they explore wildflowers along the trail, waist deep in green things, ready to discover what the woods have to give.

I don’t have this photo listed in any photo galleries here but I always have a few prints of it when I’m at my trail exhibit and when I’m displaying nature art and photos.

Cool Mimi

“Remember to Dream” photo prints are made in archival inks on Epson Silky Photo Paper, Cold Press Digital Giclee Paper or Artist Canvas.

About the artwork

Mimi reminds you that dreams do come true, so it’s advisable to remember to dream every day, no matter the circumstances, so the universe will know what dreams you want, and when they do come true, you’ll know what to do.

Mimi and I were outside on a cold and dark afternoon one November day. The rain began to fall, she was wet, her paws were wet and cold and she suddenly remembered the days before she came inside and was frightened she might not get back inside ever again. She ran for the basement door she had visited so often and I saw her trying to look inside but it was closed, she looked at me frightened and all she wanted was to be in the house, and she got in, as quickly as possible when I opened the door.

Mimi does not forget that she lived most of her life outdoors before she joined my household at about age four, and in that time gave birth to six litters of kittens, constantly looking for food and spending time in my garden hunting, and looking wistfully in the windows and doors at the happy kitties inside and wondering what it would be like to live in there, having little conversations with Cookie and Kelly and Namir through the basement door.

Then, one day, she was the one on the inside, and to her great surprise she remained inside. And so did her children. And she’s not having any more children. Her dream really did come true.

I took the photo above on a frosty January day, and the way she quickly peeked around the deck rail at me, just to make sure I was still there and she wasn’t outside all by herself, reassured that we were still together, I knew she was likely remembering a similar morning when she didn’t have a warm kitchen to return to. But she never stopped dreaming, and now she does have that warm kitchen, and a comfy lap too. And I never forgot that moment with Mimi.

And Mimi and I wish the same happy ending for all the kitties living out there on the streets—keep dreaming, there’s someone out there who loves you, and some day you’ll be together.

And from me, we humans have our dreams too, and while they may seem as impossible to achieve as a homeless cat finding a loving forever home for herself and her babies, just keep dreaming. It may not happen exactly as you plan, but it will happen. Please feel free to right-click and share the image!

SHIPPING AND CHARGES

Shipping is included in the cost of each print.

Prints up to 16″ x 20″ are shipped flat in a rigid envelope. Larger prints are shipped rolled in a mailing tube unless otherwise requested; flat shipping is an extra cost because it’s oversized.

GICLEE PRINTS

The giclees are printed on acid-free hot press art paper for a smooth matte finish using archival inks. Giclee is the highest quality print available because the technique uses a dozen or more ink ports to capture all the nuances of the original painting, including details of the texture, far more sensitive than any other printing medium. Sometimes my giclees look so much like my originals that even I have a difficult time telling them apart when they are in frames.

I don’t keep giclee prints in stock for most of my works. Usually I have giclees printed as they are ordered unless I have an exhibit where I’ll be selling a particular print so there is a wait of up to two weeks before receipt of your print to allow for time to print and ship.

DIGITAL PRINTS

Digital prints are made on acid-free matte-finish natural white 100# cover using archival digital inks. While digital prints are not the quality of a giclee in capturing every nuance and detail of color, texture and shading, I am still very pleased with the outcome and usually only I as the artist, could tell where detail and color were not as sharp as the original.

CANVAS PRINTS

Because the standard size canvas prints are not proportional to the original painting, canvas prints of this painting will have a portion cropped off of each side.

I usually have at least one of the smaller sizes of canvases on hand, but order larger ones as they are ordered here because customers often want a custom size. Smaller canvases are 3/4″ in depth, Canvases 12 x 16 and larger are 1-1/2″ in depth. I set them up so the image runs from edge to edge, then the sides are black or white or sometimes I slip in a color that coordinates with the painting.

I sign all prints next to my original signature.

GREETING CARDS

Greeting card is printed on 12 pt, uncoated stock.

  • Card is blank inside but can be customized with your message for an extra charge.
  • Feline Photo Cards assort with all other 5″ x 7″ greeting cards (except custom printed cards) for a quantity discount.

"A Good Traveler"

“A Good Traveler” prints are made in archival inks on Epson Silky Photo Paper, Cold Press Digital Giclee Paper or Artist Canvas.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

“A good traveler has no fixed plans,
and is not intent on arriving.”

~Lao-Tzu in Chapter 27 of the Tao te Ching, tr. Stephen Mitchell

It doesn’t mean you make no plans, just that you allow them to change.

These geese look like a bunch of tourists ambling along, and yet on that day we had had heavy rains and our creek, their home, had nearly topped its banks. They had fled the water and the banks and were up in the parking lot and on the streets for safety, yet they were being calm and collected, for a bunch of geese, while the humans were racing around predicting a flood that was not likely to arrive, though it looked imminent.

But aside from that lesson, I’ve always liked the photo of the geese.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

“open your heart to unexpected moments of beauty”

That’s my own observation. Heading to the basement in the morning and planning on some laundry to be hung outside, which I enjoy, I knew it was raining and though disappointed I looked out the door to see this.

A Rainy Morning

A Rainy Morning

I was so moved by the color, the random shapes of the hangers fading off into the distance, sparkling drops, blurred drops, gentle bokeh highlights of raindrops glistening on the plants in my garden. So simple, yet satisfyingly complicated in all the details to study. I added the text later, describing how I felt. The laundry could be done another day.
