Choosing Art to Submit to a Group Show

The deadline is tonight at midnight to electronically submit to an international exhibit and it’s always so hard to narrow down choices. In this case the maximum to submit is three, but I’ve still got more than that on my list and only hours to go.

I am not a member of the Pastel Society of America, but I regularly post my works there and have learned so much from following those in the group, reading their feedback, and studying their work. The exhibit is the 46th PSA Annual Exhibition “Enduring Brilliance”, and it’s in New York i September. Art must be shipped there and I’m not even sure I’ll be accepted, but there’s no other way to find out. Entries will cost $55, but it’s worth the investment.

This was the initial field of paintings I started with. I chose paintings that other artists in groups had remarked about as well as ones that people just liked.

Then I realized that the art had to be for sale in order to be part of the show and some of these were sold. A friend who had purchased a few, yet to be delivered, said that if there were ones I wanted to enter that would be fine. So that narrowed down the field a little.

Then I decided to eliminate a few that had common themes with other paintings, like waves and gulls and a few other things.

Then I decided to limit it to styles and themes that were kind of unique to me, especially the ones I’d created by experimenting. So I’m down to this group.

This painting is the one I’m most excited about. I like it more every time I look at it. It’s an experimental technique for me. The only thing is, if it’s accepted, it’s also the principal piece for this year’s Sun Shadow Ice & Snow exhibit, which is the weekend before the Monday when the art is due at the gallery in New York. How would I get it there on time? Drive it there myself?

But then again, I don’t even know if any will be accepted! Wish me luck.
