I entered this painting into two back-to-back exhibits through the 2021 Westmoreland Art Nationals: the Westmoreland County Community College Exhibit and the Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival. I was pleased that this painting was accepted into the Westmoreland County Community College Exhibit, which opened in May and just closed at the end of June.

I was excited to be able to enter this painting. It was one that I’d had in mind for over a decade before I finally got down to painting it. It’s all about those clouds and the tiny bit of sun between the clouds and the horizon as it sets on a stormy autumn evening. Beneath, the street lights have come on and the little bit of light through the clouds reflects on buildings and landmarks on the land below, but the land is a velvety black in the dim dusk. When I stopped at my favorite sunset lookout point I saw nature had put us wee humans in our places, one of those moments when you realize just how small we really are.

Mariposa’s painting, “Bath, Interrupted,” was also accepted into this exhibit. You can see all the art and photography that was entered on the Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival Facebook page.
