This votive is made with a repurposed pickle jar. I etched the inside, not sure what design I’d use on the outside, but certain I’d add color and pattern to all the workings in the glass. At first I thought it would be flowers, but then I remembered this colorful design that I’d been intending to make into a pattern, and here you are!

It’s one of the votives that works as well in daylight, looking fun and festive with the design clearly visible in just natural light, as it does in the dark with the votive candle inside. It’s really one of a kind because I have no other jars like this and I’m not sure I’ll find one just like it again.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

“Colorful Kitties” is a tissue paper cutout collage laid on paper, 6.5” W x 9” H, dated 2/12/15. The cat figures are cut freehand from colored tissue paper used for wrapping starting with the big blue kitty and each successive kitty appeared to me in color and posture and position in relation to the others. I arranged them on a page in my sketch book, while Mewsette and Mr. Sunshine supervised.

I etched the inside of the vase to better diffuse the light from the candle, then printed the design on a purchased clear vinyl label and burnished it onto the vase. The design repeats on this votive.
