Any flowers are great for summer decorating and gift-giving, even if they bloom in spring!

These large and small keepsake boxes are detailed with prints of my artwork and specialty handpainted finishes that coordinate and make the box unique. Some are the blank papier-mâché boxes from the craft store, others are made from vintage cigar box keepsakes.

I use soy-based acrylic paints and print my artwork on acid-free matte-finish paper with archival waterproof inks and adhere the print to the box. Box insides are finished or unfinished, as noted. Use for storage for small items, photos or special keepsakes, or use as gift boxes.

The boxes are may vary slightly in size and shape or have slight imperfections, but each one is an original and I often make a particular design only once.

The Perfect Place

Just one little careful study of sun on the bench and flowers, from anothers’ garden. My own garden bench should be so well landscaped.

My Mother’s Columbines

This box has my painting “My Mother’s Columbines” on the top, painted with deep forest green and sides embellished with a pattern of smaller images of the painting. Box measures 9″ in diameter x 5″ high. Price includes shipping.

Another piece borne of January inspiration in my seed and flower catalogs, this little bunch of columbines was so joyful that it stayed with me. One of my favorite flowers, it is also a favorite of my mother, and I gave this painting to her as a birthday present one year. She has since passed away and I’ve sold her home, and kept the artwork I’d done. I sold the original to a good friend to give to her mother but this image will always remind me of her.

Tea for Tulips Vintage Cardboard Cigar Box Keepsake

This vintage cardboard cigar box is finished with a white and antique silver crackle glaze and antique silver trim with an image of my painting “Tea for Tulips”. Box measures approximately 7.25″ x 6″ x 2″ high. Price includes shipping.

I knew I’d love to paint the tulips, but I really needed to learn to paint the rust on the teapot. I intentionally kept the background vague and loose in shades of green and neutral tones to complement the brilliant reds, oranges and yellows and extreme detail in each of the tulips. The frothy white curtain, minimally worked, rests atop the flowers as if a spring breeze from the open window has whipped it up and gracefully placed it there.

These cigar boxes are the old-style cardboard type, the ones we probably all grew up with around the house, holding photos and hardware and handkerchiefs. As you would expect these boxes are gently worn, in varying states of wear and tear, written on, watermarked, with holes from thumbtacks and dinged up corners and warped lids, but still usable to create something new.

The artwork is printed on acid-free label stock and adhered to the top surface. Because the lids are a little warped and flip open if the box is tipped, I’ve added a small ribbon and Velcro closure on the front.

Use for storage for small items, photos or special keepsakes, or use as gift boxes.

This vintage cardboard cigar box is finished with a white and antique sliver crackle glaze and antique silver trim with an image of my painting “Veronica’s Tulips”. Box measures approximately 7.25″ x 6″ x 2″ high. Price includes shipping.

Just as soon as I had sold “Tea for Tulips”, above, another customer was interested. When she discovered it was no longer available, she commissioned me to do one “just for her”, but not too different from the first. One thing she requested was that a Schnauzer be worked into the painting somewhere, one who hadn’t had his ears cropped.
