We’re quickly coming up on summer but there’s still time to appreciate the ephemeral beauty of spring as the trees suddenly transition from empty umber branches to brilliant apple green leaves, and even the undergrowth sprouts shades of green and yellow.

I love catching reflections on water too.

It’s just that moment when the umber and gray branches of winter have sprouted a haze of green that runs away and fills the trees in hazy spring sunshine. Robinson Run along the Panhandle Trail runs fast but smooth with depth in this area and carries a clear reflection of the sky and hill, riffling over a strainer of branches upstream. In midwinter it was frozen, in midsummer I walk through there to the swimming hole around the bend.

I stood on a footbridge and quickly sketched this en plein air with my simple box of broken pastels that travels with me on walks.
