The photo reminded me of my mother’s climbing red roses which grew up a trellis on the side of the house and now grow on a trellis on the side of my house. These roses have always fascinated me, they just keep going–up the fence, over the fence, down the other side. As a watercolor it was pure pleasure, with enough color, light and shadow and shape for it to be interesting. The reflected light near the bottom, especially, was a joy to study and discover.

This painting has always been popular so I offer it in a variety of sizes. Because the art is cropped to fit many standard size frames and canvases, sometimes rather extreme, the gallery below includes the original and the cropped versions for various sizes:
