Brushy Baths Tiles - Portraits of Animals

This set of ceramic tiles is “Brushy Baths.” Tiles are also available individually with discounted prices for two, three or four. Not all tiles may be available in the set—the available tiles are those listed in the drop-down list—though I usually make replacements in sets as soon as I can until I run out of a group of tiles. NOTE: some tiles have a note above the product shopping cart. When one tile in a set sells I make another until I run out of tiles so you may see a “ready to ship ” date because It takes several days for the finish to cure.

About “Brushy Baths”

I love the color of these tiles and my first idea was to use it by imprinting my brush and ink pen sketches. I used a clear label for these rather than the art paper I use for my full-coverage artwork and I just love how they turned out. I chose “baths” because cats bathe a lot and I have so many bath sketches, but I’ve also got “naps” and “basket cases” and “couples” and probably even more to come with this theme.

I loved learning to work with a brush pen, a fountain pen which actually has shaped bristles at the tip and the ink flows from a cartridge so it’s almost like a brush dipped in ink. The brush is very graceful and I can make all sorts of lovely lines, wide and flat or narrow and wandering. And so expressive! I have so many brush pen sketches organizing them into sets was really helpful.

About the tiles

These tiles are 4″ x 4″ made with upcycled ceramic wall tiles in a pale yellow. Each tile has the image on the surface and is finished top and sides with a water-resistant finish. I adhere a 4″ x 4″ piece of cork on the bottom.

The finish cures completely after 28 days, but I make them available when they can be handled, after three days. I usually make replacements for designs sold from a set in a week or two.

Because I get the upcycled tiles in whatever quantity they are available I continue replacing designs until I run out of tiles in that size/color/style, then I get another lot and start all over again with full sets on the new tiles, but still sell the old ones that are left.

NOTES ON USE:

These are not safe for use with food.
These cannot be used as a hot pad for items taken out of the oven or microwave or off the stove, any item which has been heated by cooking—wall tiles were not created to handle oven heat.
These work great as a coaster for items filled with hot food or liquids, like mugs of coffee or tea or dishes filled with cooked food (just not straight out of the oven). There is not enough heat transferred to affect the ceramic from a container of any sort that’s just filled with hot liquid or food.
You can wash them with regular dish soap. In my tests the cork stays in place as long as it’s not submerged.
