The Bench, Pastel - Portraits of Animals

I took a film photo of this brilliant scene in 1983 on a steep street I walked down to Main Street daily. A couple of decades later I was surprised one autumn morning to see it wasn’t terribly different. I pulled the original photo and saw the trees at that time hadn’t quite grown in and there was more sun on the sidewalk and more rooftops to see so did a sketch of it in preparation for a larger painting. I never got past the sketch but I like the loose brilliance and entered it into our annual “Carnegie Painted” exhibit where I sold the original.

I could have given it a more interesting title, though!
