About The Garden Gate

For someone who is a gardener and spends a lot of time in her yard–what a special place! If I can’t have it in my yard, at least I can paint it.

The arbor sporting ivy, the crape myrtle crowning the entrance and the garden gate, mysteriously left ajar and leading to a stone path along a wall to another part of the garden, I’m not even sure where the image originated because I painted this in the early 90s when I first began watercoloring. But I think I connect this with one of the local historic places I visited, the sort of place you would see a well-grown mature garden with older popular plants, arbors and gates. I do remember layering ever more color and colors into the dark leafy areas , seeing how layering red atop the green deepened the shadow but kept it from completely receding.
