Peace and beauty in the quiet of the year.
The shortest day of the year has arrived, the sun has set, and from here nature will fulfill her eternal promise that the sun will not continue to disappear, but will begin to stay with us longer each day; no wonder the ancients celebrated this night—how frightening it must have been to think the sun might be fading, never to return.
Every other season is busy with its time of growth and production and activity, but this quiet time of the year when the raw bones of nature are clear for us to see is a time of rest and reflection, in preparation for the seasons to come again in their cycle.
Never forget that when the light seems dim there is much to be seen with the heart. I hope you have wonderful memories to reflect upon from 2017, and anticipate new memories for 2018.
Winter is my favorite season to paint, and finding the beautiful in a stark season is always a subject for photography, and this newsletter includes links to several galleries and exhibits, including a new exhibit, one of my favorites, “Winter White”. I’ve also included links to a couple of seasonal stories.
