Wishing I Was There

I didn’t get to see the beach for the first time until I was 31 years old. But it was like a reunion, I felt as if I’d known it all my life the first time I ran from the parking lot, across the pier and steps and out onto the sand on a beach on Assateague Island, and straight into the water.

I also used 10 rolls of 36-exposure film, one of them entirely on one particular set of waves, trying to time it and get to know the moment I liked best (all of them). After the first time I visited the beach I discovered that sand was much like snow, my other favorite subject, in the tones and colors it held in all the different lights of day. I honed my skills on watercolor painting creating paintings from this vacation. I painted many paintings from that one vacation, and still reference the photos today.

I have always liked warm evening light, lengthening purple shadows and deepening colors. I wish I was standing in that warm sand and hearing that breeze rustle through the grass and ruffle through my hair, and hear the waves crashing on the beach.

Evening Beach is a watercolor, 8 x 10, painted in 2000. I offer it in three sizes and styles of prints. Below is a sample of a small canvas print.

I also offer an oversized greeting card, 5.5″ x 8.5″, with the image printed on natural watercolor paper. It’s so nice, you can even frame it. Comes with matching envelope.

Shipping within the US is included in the cost of each print.

Prints up to 16″ x 20″ are shipped flat in a rigid envelope. Larger prints are shipped rolled in a mailing tube unless otherwise requested; flat shipping is an extra cost because it’s oversized.
