Bella Approves This Design!

If you had any doubts that the real Bella’s eyes were as big and round and pale green as buttons, she is here to prove to you that yes, they really are. She was the inspiration for this design, and when I created this design I got as close to the real thing as I possibly could. I went to photograph this new style of dish towels and Bella was napping on the table where I wanted to photograph them. I hoped she might want to wake up and interact with the dishtowels in some way, and what a star, she turned around and did this!

I saw a gingham dishtowel with a black cat silhouette printed on it and decided I had to try that with Bella! I haven’t found a gingham dishtowel that wasn’t already printed or embroidered for a reasonable price, nor a gingham fabric that I’d like for a dishtowel, so when I saw these Rinnig towels at IKEA I thought I’d give them a try. The pattern is woven into the towel instead of printed onto it, which I prefer for its durability, and the color is actually very dark gray, so it’s a little muted against the black ink of Bella.

The towels seem to be in good supply and they’ll be available for a while, so I feel confident in offering these towels in quantity.

The Bella! design is 8″ wide. I chose the size in part to accommodate the design when the towel is folded in thirds, and because it’s a size I like and can find two-hole buttons for. Trust me, 5/8″ two-hole lime green/apple green/light green buttons are elusive!

Ordering your towels

Offering four different patterns is tricky with ordering. I buy the four in a set, but some people like stripes and some people like plaids, and some people want all four the same, so that makes inventory interesting. That means I may run out of one pattern before others and there may be a delay while I get and print more towels.

Use these pattern names when ordering.

Original Bella! Tote Bag with the black kitty silhouette

O.M.Geeeee! It’s Bella! On a bag with green button eyes just like her big round eyes! Bella, in silhouette, is stenciled at the bottom of a bag and with just big blue-green eyes that are two-hole buttons sewn on with black thread.

Based on one of my sketches of Bella from shortly after she arrived here simply called “Bella”, I pulled out the scan of the little painting and refined the design in Photoshop. Bella’s eyes are not yellow green, they are a cooler blue-green, and I found pretty close to a good color for her. Others don’t live in a house full of housepanthers, so I added the white, gray and ginger kitties who are her foster friends. Read more about this tote bag here.
