FEATURED WORK: “Summer Sunset on Robinson Run”, pastel, 12 x 18 © Bernadette E. Kazmarski
I’ve been visiting the Panhandle Trail since 2002 with my bike and on foot, for exercise and inspiration, more inspiration than exercise, packing in with backpacks of camera equipment and art supplies.
I’ve taken thousands of photos along the trail and off in the woods, but I’ve also created dozens of sketches while there in pencil, charcoal, pastel and watercolor, and arriving home in my studio to do more from photos. It’s the place where I found the scene of one of my favorite paintings, “Dusk in the Woods”.
In 2014 I decided I’d like to see how RTQ attendees would enjoy an exhibit of those paintings and photos as part of the event. I collected a number of these works for an exhibit, but not in a gallery—right on the trail, where I’ve spent so much time and found these inspirations. That first year so many people stopped in and looked at all the images and told me how they loved those places, and my work too. I was thrilled. It’s my favorite exhibit because I get to share a place I love with others who love it too, and despite the August heat every year I look forward to being there that last weekend in August.
It’s hard to believe this year will be my fifth annual exhibit!
You’ll find me in my tent during Rock the Quarry, the annual fundraiser for the Collier Friends of the Panhandle Trail. I’ll have my exhibit set up and also have display of prints, photos and notecards, and this year I have a good selection of merchandise and gift items I’ve made by hand with those same paintings and photos. A portion of sales of art and merchandise during Rock the Quarry will benefit the Collier Friends of the Panhandle Trail.
I will be posting regularly about this exhibit here, and also in my e-newsletter as well as post cards mailed to my mailing list.
