Night Window - Portraits of Animals

This is my neighbor’s house and a scene I see from my kitchen window. Years ago, every night the light was on in this window and the beacon felt so familiar that it was like a part of my own home. They told me it was their living room so the light would always be on in the evening.

After seeing it on many a snowy night, this bright square of light illuminating the snow just outside, I decided I had to capture it with something more than a photo, just a small, quick and simple sketch focusing on that window and the light in the darkness, The vigilant oak the only other witness. They moved a few years ago and now the window isn’t illuminated each evening, but I still think of it whenever I look out my kitchen window.

This image was used to illustrate an online publication of Sherwood Anderson’s anthology of short stories, Winesburg Ohio, and someone from that publishing group purchased the original framed painting. That online version is long gone but I was thrilled at my artwork being part of that publication.

As I mentioned I sold the original, but I can make prints of this little painting. A 5″ x 7″ print is $20.00 including taxes, shipping and handling. Please ask if you’re interested.
